Ruth and Alex Purnell started selling Lillies of the Valley with their mother, Robin in 1988.
After they got older, they did it on their own every year.
This past weekend, their sister, Jane, sold lillies at their Washington home. Jane is eight-years-old and in the second grade at Wakefield Country Day School.
Some years they made close to $100. When Alex was a junior in high school he sold $75 worth of flowers and was able to pay for his tickets to prom. Last year, Jane made $35 in two hours.
A lot of the same people come back every year to buy the flowers. The flowers are perennials and were most likely planted by the original owners of the house, the Kendalls. Their Latin name is Convallaria Majalis.
