The Salmons’ came to Rappahannock County in 1983 after he retired from the military. In addition to his wife, Patricia Woodruff Salmon of Flint Hill, he is survived by three children: Stuart Salmon of Charlottesville, Timothy Salmon of Flint Hill, and Deirdre Salmon Hays of Leesburg. Salmon also leaves a brother, retired Marine Corps Lt. Col. Michael Salmon of Alexandria; and two grandchildren.

Salmon had been quite ill and died at the Virginia Medical Center in Charlottesville on May 5 from complications of pneumonia.
