School Board
budget is
reduced

The Rappahannock County Public School Board met for their scheduled monthly meeting on Tuesday, May 10.
The Rappahannock Board of Supervisors reduced the School Board’s budget by $150,000 and the finance committee reported alterations made to accommodate that requested change.
The proposed reductions include furnishings for the new addition, purchasing only one of two school buses, and eliminating the part-time math teacher position.
Originally, there was budgeted a 15 percent increase to the costs of the school’s health insurance plan, but increases have only amounted to 10.75 percent.
Chairman of the Board Wesley Mills took a moment to thank the community and the Board of Supervisors for their support and the confidence they have shown in the School Board. In addition Mills expressed concern that there may be a misconception in the eye of the public that all teacher salaries- will be increased by 5 percent. In actuality an overall 3.5 percent salary increase will take place and then a 1.5 percent step increase will be issued.
School Board member Rosa Crocker also wanted to ensure the community that they have not let the new track fall to the wayside and are still actively pursuing its construction.
