With a “Song in their Hearts,” the juniors and seniors of Rappahannock County High School and their guests enjoyed the annual prom held Saturday night at the school. The music of the Detours resounded from every comer of the gym and gay conversation filled the breaks of the orchestra. The colorful gowns of the young ladies and formal suits of the gentlemen blended with decorations which carried out the dance theme, “A Song in My Heart.” The center of the room held a wishing well surrounded by flowers on a carpet of green grass. From the ceiling red hearts and musical notes fluttered in mobile fashion. The bleacher wall was covered with silver paper adorned with more hearts and notes and the theme spelled out. The group was refreshed with lime punch, cake, doughnut holes, mints and nuts.
The recently completed addition to the Amissville Baptist Church was dedicated at a service Sunday evening at which time the Rev. John Hodge, former pastor of the church was guest speaker. The Rev. Charles Kindred is present pastor and took part in the dedication ceremony. The addition to the church is five classrooms, a kitchen and rest rooms. Amissville Baptist church was organized in December 1888 with 36 members under the advisory counsels of the Reverends A. M. Grimsley. M. R. Grimsley and S. M. Athey. The last charter member of the church, Mrs. Neva Doyle Bywaters, died in. Feb. 1965. The Rev. M. R. Grimsley was the first pastor of the church with an annual salary of $125 for two services a month. On the first birthday of the church membership had increased to 91. Land was purchased for the church for $300.
