Caroline did purchase the acre of land, but her dream of a cabin was never fulfilled because her children thought the location was too remote for the aging woman. Instead, she settled in a home in the village of Spefryville.
“I just want that one acre of land — if the lady who bought it would let me buy it back, so I can put a kiosk in memory of all those slaves who settled there,” said Russell.
For Russell, the life of his ancestors has become a passion, a message he hopes to carry on for many more generations.
