Saying thanks
In recognition of the founding members of the Washington Volunteer Fire Department Thrift Shop, established in 1965 by Jean and Jonas Alther, Ethel Bailey, Frances Foster, Ruth Clark, Mary Ellen Burke, Anna Jenkins, plaques were recently presented to honor their untiring efforts over the years. Special recognition was given to Jean Alther, Jonas Alther and Frances Foster representing 40 years of volunteer efforts and in appreciation for their continuing dedication and service to the community resulting in donations totaling $222,650. Mayor Eugene Leggett, president of the Washington Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department presented a plaque to Jean Alther, which will be on display in the front entrance of the fire station as a remembrance of their hard work, perseverance and continuing contributions to tne welfare of the Washington Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department.
