RCPS Students Among Winners of the Piedmont Regional Science Fair at UVA:
Junior Division winner: Isabelle Eastham earned 1st Place in Microbiology, and is the winner of the Discovery Channel Young Scientist Challenge Award for best project in Microbiology. She will be eligible to compete in the Discovery Challenge.
Senior Division winners: Laura Keller is the 1st place overall winner in the Zoology category, and qualifies for the State Science Fair. Austin Collins is the 2nd place winner in the Medicine category, and also won a special award for his project from the Childhood Obesity Task Force of Charlottesville. Osha Kondori is the 3rd place winner in the Botany category.
RCES PTO Raises Money for School by Recycling:There is a box inside the front door of RCES that is growing money for RCES. There are other collection locations at area businesses and the Rappahannock County landfill. Citizens can deposit old print cartridges and cell phones that translate into dollars to support the school. The PTO has raised thousands for a new pottery kiln and other worthy projects. Athletic Event Parking at RCES: When construction commenced on the new Gym / Band Room, we set up a tem-*L porary parking lot beside the Baseball field. When that lot fills up, spectators will be asked to park in front of RCES.
SOL Testing - New Wrinkle This. Spring: The Federal “No Child Left Behind” law requires that the States test students in grades 3-8 in Math and Reading starting this 'school year. Virginia already tests grades 3,5, and 8 on SOL. Starting in May students in grades 4, 6, and 7 will also take SOL testsbut just in Math and Reading.
SOL Testing Schedule:
Grades 3-8 will be tested May 16-25 (8th grade will be tested online at RCHS); Grade 7 Algebra I will be tested online on June 6.
End-of-Course (EOC) Grades 9-12 + 7th graders taking Algebra I and 8th graders taking Algebra I or Geometry will be tested May 31-June 7 (all online at RCHS).
