No longer at bay
After being approved by the Architectural Review Board last year, Robert and Joanie Ballard are installing two bay windows to the front of their building on Main Street in Washington. Work began by Robin Kevas on Monday morning and already the two bay windows are in place. All work should be completed by next week.
The Ballards have alot of research on this building’s history, including finding old photos of the “original Lot #11” that George Washington first laid out way back when when he was a young surveyor in the late 1700s.
The building, according to several old timers, has been a pool hall, diner, grocery store, several art galleries, a boarding house, a home, office space for a recreation center, and probably alot more.
“We have people come in every week saying “they remember when this building was a.” Someone even said they remember when the Lee’s owned the building that “Mrs. Lee gave us ice cream cones out on the back porch (when there was a porch),” said Joanie Ballard who is very excited about this and has been planning this transformation for a few years.
“We are so happy to see it finally come to fruition.”
