Band boosters, students, families and friends came to the Rappahannock County High School on Friday evening for a pre-district concert by their favorite band. The send-off was enthusiastic and perhaps buoyed by that energy the concert band came back home with honors.
Unanimously rated “Superior” the next day by three district judges in an adjudication of the work of all District 14 bands in our area, the Rappahannock High School Concert Band continues to win honors for the school and the community with their spirited and talented musical performances around Virginia.
“We scored the highest possible rating: I (one). Three Instrumental Ensemble judges each gave us a Superior Rating and the Sight Reading Judge also gave us a Superior Rating, lb achieve straight ‘ones’ (highest possible rating) is the first ever at Rappahannock County High School at this Festival which is a state-wide event. It is not a competition against ! other bands, but a gauge for how we ‘ are doing and how other music profes, sionals perceive our program,” said a ; proud and delighted band director MattYonkey. • Although not performing at the Sherando High School district meet in Stephens City, the Rappahannock County High School’s jazz band ensemble delighted the audience at the band concert on Friday evening with a number of syncopated and rhythmic pieces, including “I Feel Good” which had people rocking in their chairs.
