The firm recommended a treatment of “minimal intervention.” No structural repairs appear to be needed, but careful cleaning, removal of growths, repainting of mortar, and treatment of the stone with an ethyl silicate treatment is needed. Evergreen plantings at the base should be removed and the monument’s base should be regard- - ed to direct drainage away from the structure, the study said.
The firm estimated the cost of these and other recommended steps at about $35,000.
