The girls varsity soccer team at Wakefield Country Day School played their first game of the season against Warren County High School on Monday.
It ended in a tie at 1-1.
Nine minutes into the first half, senior Caitlin Hammelman, assisted by Allison Russo, netted a goal. Then the pace dwindled with both teams playing very defensively . Hammelman continued to dominate. Junior Jody Green made a great kick that impressed the sidelines but it was returned by successful blocking from the Warren County Wildcats.
By the end of the first half, the score was 10 in favor of the Owls but that was not to last for long.
In the beginning of the second half Warren County scored and the Owls blocked successfully to keep it at only one goal.
Unfortunately, the game was stopped because WCDS player Song-yi Chang dislocated her elbow while defending the goal. Earlier in the game Chang had been consistent in keeping the ball up field shots. The crowd and the WCDS bench cheered Chang on as she was carried off to the hospital by Flint Hill Rescue Squad.
The game resumed and both teams were tied 1-1. A penalty kick was awarded to WCHS for a hand ball. The kick was missed. Although there was good hustle in the last few minutes of
