Shay Bell has a definite goal for his Rappahannock County High School varsity boys soccer team.
“All Fm expecting to do is win the (Bull Run) District,” he said. “We’re trying to get a trophy for the case. My first two years, we went to states, and it was sweet when we did it. But it’s up to luck and injuries not to happen.”
Saying that you expect to win districts is one thing. Doing it is quite another.
Consider this: Rappahannock has not beaten Clarke County and George Mason, the perennial favorites, in the past two years.
There’s another one of Bell’s goals for this spring.
“This is a tough district. Twelve out of the last 13 state champions have come from the Bull Run District,” he said.
Clarke County won the state champion last spring, avenging its 2004 state championship game lost to... George Mason.
