The Headwaters Foundation awarded grants of more than $14,000 to teachers and staff of the school system. Some of the funds are designated for field trips, for special classroom equipment, and for teacher development and learning, attending conferences and conventions.

In saluting Rappahannock’s star wrestlers, state champion Isaac Raney and (very close) runner-up Dos Allen, Chappell noted that Allen, having been outpointed by a decision many thought could have gone the other way, conducted himself with notable dignity. Said the Superintendent, “Dos Allen shook the hand of his opponent, the referee and the opposing coach, and walked off with his head held high. As far as I’m concerned,” Chappell concluded, “Rappahannock has two state champions.”
Loud talking
Roughly thirty minutes into the Tuesday evening meeting, several members scrambled to try to make the microphones work, since some of the half-dozen citizens attending allowed that they couldn’t hear the members. Since the mikes could not be made to function, it was decided, as one said, to “just talk loud.”
Later, Chappell agreed that it might be a good idea to fix the system in case a lot of folks show up for next week’s public hearing on the budget.
