The palette of approved colors that applicants currently choose from was actually compiled by simply adding another paint color whenever the ARB approved a new applicant’s choice. According to O’Connell, the ARB has never voted against an applicant’s color selection because “we never thought we had a leg to stand on in court.”
While some members expressed concern that future applicants might choose to paint their houses in garish colors that are not in fitting with the rest of the town, the measure passed unanimously. However, no actual changes will be made until the Washington Town Council votes on the proposal.
