But now, I can concentrate on this high school season and winning the (Group A) Bull Run District.”
Christopher Newport University is one of the top Division III baseball programs in the country. Under head coach John Harvell, the Captains went to the NCAA Tournament three consecutive seasons earlier in this decade, finishing as the College World Series runner up in June 2003.
This season, the Captains currently a ire 19-17 in the Dixie Conference, which includes Fferrum, Averett, Greensboro, Methodist, North Carolina Wesleyan, Shenandoah and Chowan.
The latter two Dixie Conference schools, along with Virginia Military Institute, Shepherd College, Frostburg State and Eastern Mennonite, also sought Jenkins’ left arm for the next four seasons.
But in the end, Jenkins chose Christopher Newport, which is located in Newport News, for its athletic facilities and strong academics.
