Jeff Jenkins never worried that his Rappahannock County varsity baseball team would display good pitching.
Now, maybe he will be able to say the same thing about its hitting.
“We have been doing better, but we’re capable of hitting the ball a lot better,” Jenkins said after his Panthers reeled off their third win in four games, a 4-1 decision over Clarke County Friday afternoon.
Still, no one can argue with the pitching performances that Rappahannock has had lately.
Friday in the win over Clarke County, junior lefthander Ethan Russell tossed a one-hitter.
He fanned the first six hitters that he faced.
“Ethan had everything working,” Jenkins said. “His curve was working well. He was locating the fastball well.”
Russell also helped his cause with a base hit, two runs scored and a pair of stolen bases.
Rappahannock opened its scoring in the top of the second as Bobby Czekaj tripled and scored on Nathan Hartshorn’s single.
In the fifth, Alex Sharp had an RBI double to give Rappahannock its second run.
