The Three Rivers Health District has an immediate opening for an Environmental Health Specialist supporting Public Health efforts to protect the public & ground water in the On Site Sewage Program. This position will cover counties of Northumberland and Westmoreland. Primary duties will be issuing sewage disposal system and well construction permits, conducting on-site soils evaluation and subdivision review, private water well and sewage system inspection, rabies abatement, and marina inspection. In addition, duties include investigation of environmental health complaints through enforcement of Virginia health law s/regulations. Ideal candidate will have know ledge of soil/water characteristics, sewage disposal systems, groundwater protection, and the cause of food /waterborne diseases. Possess good public relations skills, ability to communicate effectively w ritten/verbally w ith Microsoft application skills. BS in Environmental Health, Biology, Soils, or related science preferred and/or equivalent combination of training/experience considered. Valid current drivers' license and transportation required with mileage reimbursement. Position requires working outdoors and moderately strenuous physical labor during all seasons. A twelve-month probationary period is required for all. new state employees. A National Criminal Background Check is a condition of employment.
