Morning thunder storms did not keep the 4H
Performing Arts club from their community
service efforts to clean up and restore Rappahannock’s only public park this past Saturday. The club chose the clean-up project as their annual immunity 4H event but also had the opportunity to register their project with the National and Global Youth Services of America, in a nationwide Earth Day hi vent. The 4H club joined over 1,000 youth last weekend in nearly 50 projects which served their communities as they participated in the nation’s largest service event.
The projects were posted on Youth Service of America’s website and the youth were to receive ; r ecognition from the Governor. The 4H Performing •' Arts Club of Rappahannock County who were orches• I trated by leader Cherl Crews of Castleton were Carly ; I Day, Austen Cloud, Tessa Crews, Presley Thomas, :• Morgan Cloud, Justin Smith, Kori Smith, Haley Owens and Skylar Owens.
These children not only organized the clean-up project and event but turned the day into a festival with activities for the younger children who attended.
There was face painting, puppet making, drumming, and potting flowers. In addition to the activities and pot luck lunch the group provided live musial entertainment from the county’s youth band “The i’ink Mob” and Janet Kerig, who has the arts and crafts camp at the park, assisted the club by drumming for their closing ceremony, a short production rifled “Bringing in the Earth”.
Masks for the play were on loan from the collec■. non of Pine Philips and Wendy Sirit of Sage in Sperryville. The Farm and Garden store generously provided the ground covering and flowers and several dedicated families both local and out-of-county assisted in the days clean-up efforts transforming the mnely park into a welcoming play ground.
Many thanks to all of you who worked so hard, your efforts are recognized. While a bit on the soggy ide, a good time was had by all.
