The Rappahannock Historical Society has scheduled its annual historical house tour and benefit at Meadow Green Farm on Saturday afternoon, May 20. Meadow Green Farm, the home of John and Pam Kiser, is a working farm located on the Hughes River off Slate Mills Road and Route 231, in the southern part of the county.
As in the past, this year’s event will offer a snapshot of history, focusing on the activities one would have seen at a plantation of this era in the Piedmont of Virginia. A many-faceted learning experience that will fascinate adults as well as children, the tom- offers an opportunity to visit a 1830s-era farm and grand old house.
Sponsored by the Rappahannock Historical Society, this popular fundraiser, dubbed a “Historical Sampler,” is held each year at a different historic home in the county. Since the society has no endowment or funding other than dues and donations, this is a crucial fundraiser to help provide financial resources to maintain the viability of the Society to collect, preserve and share its treasure trove of local history.

Music, history, and “historical reenactments” will be special features of this year’s interactive event. Living history demonstrations performed by skilled artisans will be of particular interest to young people. Those activities include the following:
