In all, Dr. Chappell identified some $237,000 in cuts accomplished by the administration and the School Board as the budgeting work was done over the past several months. He described the work as a variation on zero-budgeting. Jackson District Supervisor Ron Frazier asked about the budgeting process that produced such savings and wondered, “how much we could’ve saved over the years if we’d taken the same approach”.
Amissville resident and band room volunteer Katherine Treanor rose to thank the Supervisors for their support, saying, “we are very grateful...you gentlemen have been partners” in the progress of the school system. Ms. Treanor noted that the children she and her husband are raising have spent 19 years in Rappahannock schools, and for those years she has been coming to the Board of Supervisors to seek and receive support.
“Our music students,” she said, “have been given the background to be able to compete at the highest levels.” In those 19 years here, she pointed out, “I have seen the education programs increase in number and quality.”
