“When I moved to Richmond in 1980,” Collier said, “I began to gravitate around the river and canal, making many negatives over the years, often of the same location or subject in different seasons, under different lighting conditions, until the image found me.”
And rather them expound on his process and technique, Collier prefers famed American photographer Minor White’s explanation: “For technical data — the camera was faithfully used.”
Collier has been doing photography since the age of 10 when living in Japan. He was a photographer for the College of Architecture at Virginia Tech, following graduation. He now works for a global imaging services company, while pursuing fine art photography.
The‘Packing Shed Gallery is located at the corner of Porter and Gay streets in historic Washington, Virginia, and is open Thursday through Monday from 12:30-7 p.m. For more information, phone (540) 675-3410.
