proposed school budget. McCarthy noted that the Supervisors’ next regular meeting is Monday, May 1, and a school budget vote can be expected at that time.
If the expressions during an after the public hearing are an accurate measure of the mood, the budget will sail through.
McCarthy asked the Supervisors for an official vote on a related budget item, contract work on the football field, which McCarthy noted, is being carried out now. The administrator needed approval for “not more than $98,000” to pay the contractor’s bill. A motion was made and in the steady baritone murmurings of the board, it was “aye, aye, aye, aye” down the fine.
The next morning found the School Board members in special session dealing with, among other items, money for the celebrated racing track behind the high school. The Board voted to authorize Superintendent Chappell to spend up to $150,000 to complete a contract with the firm that will coat the track with asphalt. Dr. Chappell pointed out that these funds are outside the school budget; some are from reduced interest payments. Another portion, just under $52,000, comes from the
