And the installation of the store’s most recent addition should finish this week. The motorized Tug-a-Rug rack holds large, 9 x 12 rugs.
With the previous, smaller rack, which held 6x9 rugs, an employee had to climb up to the top of the rack to get a rug down. But with the new rack, which holds 160 rugs, an employee can simply retrieve a rug with a push of a button.
“It’s been a family-oriented business,” Early said.
Of five children, two work with their spouses in the store.
Sonja Early-Betts, who calls herself the showroom designer, is working to create better access and visibility in the remnants area. She enjoys doing window treatments but says, “my mother is the pro.”
After 40 years
Early’s Carpet generally has four to five trucks of shipments going out each day.
“It’s not a 9-to-5 job,” Lorraine Early said. “It’s long hours, hard work.”
But there are perks. She enjoys taking trips to visit the store’s distributors and has traveled to Australia, Russia and Scotland, to name a few.
