ment is not a church. Our government was formed to protect religious freedom, among other things, not to enforce religious beliefs on the citizenry. I hope Christian communities assert more responsibility for human development and justice, calling on their own communities to delve deeply into the gifts of faith and human understanding to end harassment of same-sex couples in civil society. This responsibility begins by voting no on the constitutional amendment in November.
