An annual event that illuminates history through living demonstrations of life on a 1830s era plantation is scheduled this Saturday afternoon, 1:00 to 6:00 p.m., at the historic Meadow Green Farm, home of John and Pam Kiser, near Slate Mills. This interactive “Historical Sampler,” sponsored by the Rappahannock Historical Society, follows on the successful tour last spring at Jessamine Hill near Little Washington and is of interest to both adults and children.
Live music of the early 1800s and history “reenacted” will be special features of this year’s event. Living histojy performed by skilled artisans from our area will be of particular interest to young people. Among the activities on view are weaving, quilting, woodworking, butter churning, caring for farm animals, and other chores of running a Virginia plantation in the pre-Civil War period. Delicious food and refreshments provided by local Rappahannock restaurants also will be a special treat.
