Yes, it is a new century, and the 8-year-olds and 9-year-olds in elementary school can carry a computer in a side pocket, with its keyboard in another small pocket.
You can see where the future has arrived in action in Shelley Shankle’s third grade class at Rappahannock Elementary, or peek across the corridor at Susan Payne’s class. The children are using PDA’s - personal digital assistants - to compute arithmetic exercises, write stories, and conduct basic research on all sorts of topics.
