At their May 10 meeting, the Washington Ibwn Council held a public hearing on the draft budget for the fiscal year of 2006-2007. The current proposed budget is for $2,976,050.00, which is an increase of almost $500,000 from last year. The largest portion of the town’s expenses will go to funding Washington’s improvements to the town wastewater situation. Expenses associated with the town’s wastewater system are expected to total close to $4 million although only a quarter of that will impact this year’s budget. Washington expects to further offset the high cost of their new wastewater system by selling the Avon Hall property, currently being renovated by the town. According to projections • in the budget, the sale of Avon Hall is expected to yield around $2 million, although no actual offers have been made for the property.
