By 12:30 p.m., which was more than an hour before the first part of the procession was initially scheduled to arrive in Warrenton, at least a dozen cars had pulled into the parking lot at the fairgrounds.
Sitting in a small sedan parked near the Simpson’s car, former Fairfax residents Margaret and Esther Ziemba also waited to pay their respects to the slain detective and her family.
“We lived in Fairfax almost all of our lives and we have such tremendous respect for the Fairfax officers,” said Margaret Ziemba. “I’ve been glued to the television (since this happened) and I went by the Sully District Station the other day. It is so sad.”
