The Border Protection Act calls for the end of the practice of “catch and release,” in which captured illegal immigrants are released immediately because of the lack of detention space. Additional resources would be provided to apprehend and detain illegal immigrants until they can be deported. Funding also would be provided to relieve local law enforcement from the financial burden of capturing and detaining illegal immigrants.
This bill would require all employers to verify the Social Security Numbers of all job applicants. Resources would be provided to ensure the maintenance of a database of valid Social Security card-holders against which employers can conduct checks.
With all of these tools in place to secure our borders, we would position America to avoid another flood of illegal immigration, and then be poised properly to reform our immigration system.
