Virginia voters are called to

make a critical decision in November on the proposed constitutional amendment to prohibit same-sex marriage and other legal contracts between same-sex couples. The amendment is excessive for two reasons: same-sex marriage is already prohibited by Virginia law; and other legal contracts, like medical power of attorney and property settlements, are also already provided for in existing state law.
