The Washington Town Council voted to authorize Mayor Eugene Leggett to finalize the sale of four acres of the town’s Avon Hall property to Rappahannock County for the price of $400,000. The property, which is adjacent to the county offices and county jail, will be used for government offices. The Washington Tbwn council created a new category of town zoning called “Government Services” for the four acre parcel at their April 12 meeting. The zoning change ensures that should Rappahannock County ever re-sell the four acres, any non-government buyer would have to seek a special use permit from Washington to use the buildings.
According to County Administrator John McCarthy, there are no plans to build on the County’s new land for several years.
