“Manassas Park and Clarke have really improved,” Jeff Jenkins said. “They’re playing everyone close now.”
If the Panthers overlook the Cougars, they may find their season over.
“We’re not looking past Manassas Park,” Jason Jenkins added. “They gave us a major scare.”
Rappahannock met its first goal this spring. It finished in file top three in the district. If it should reach the district tournament final, it probably will see top-seeded George Mason.
“We’ve got to concentrate on hitting,” Jason Jenkins said. “I’m getting excited. I think that we can win the whole thing.”
The top two finishers in the tournament advance to the Group A Region B tournament in late May. This time, the Bull Run District is the host district. Winning the tournament means that Rappahannock could host regionals.
The Panthers have not been to a regional baseball tournament since 1976, when they finished second in the state. Jeff Jenkins was -an eighth grader playing on the junior varsity baseball team that year.
