Fresh fruit abound
By Brant Marlett
Special to the Rappahannock News
Around every comer, every bend, down every winding road and atop every rolling hill, there seems to be a farm or fruit stand bursting with fresh produce here in Rappahannock County. Stop by any one of them and see for yourself the beautiful array of fruits, vegetables and herbs, as well as other home grown treats that are on display this summer season.
Jenkins Orchard, Muskrat Haven Farm and Moore’s Orchard all offer their own unique produce.
Visit Muskrat Haven Farm and prepare to get messy when you go to pick fresh blackberries from the bushes. They are so tender and plump that you need to handle them with care because they are liable to pop.
Jenkins Orchard offers a bountiful array of apples, peaches, com and tomatoes as well. But what really catches the eye are their baskets full of yellow plums. These’ plums are truly a gift from the gods and their color sparkles in the sun and they smell sweet like an afternoon rain storm.
