“Tsotsi,” a deeply sad and touching South African film, was awarded the foreign language prize by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. Tsotsi is a teenage gang leader who survives by his wits. Although he’s smarter than his hoodlum pals, he won’t reveal his name to them, going by simply “Tsotsi” which in ghetto lingo means thug.
