Because upon reaching the peak, the struggle to get up there completely fades from memory. Panoramic views from the top boast shots clear into West Virginia, including picture-perfect views of the valleys and foothills of the park and the peaks along Skyline Drive: Robertson Mountain, Crescent Rocks and Spitler Hill. Graves Mountain, the Propham Run, Hughes River and the towns of Etlan and Peola Mills are also perfectly visible.
The “fire trail” down the mountain is a much easier descent than facing the rock scramble again. This is also an easier ascent for the lessadventurous hiker.
