“What a great honor it is to have our wine so highly distinguished from among so many worthy entries,” said Rappahannock’s owner, John Delmare. “However, we knew from the start that the 2005 Reserve Viognier was a very special wine; and it’s a fitting tribute to our dedicated wine growing team, including our winemaker Stephen Barnard. When we moved our winery here from California, we were confident that we could consistently produce world class wines in Virginia, and this award certainly confirms our beliefs.”
Recognizing the promise in Virginia wines, John Delmare moved his family’s winery from California to the Blue Ridge Mountains in the heart of Virginia. With careful tending of the vineyard and exacting knowledge of the cellar, Rappahannock Cellars strives to create rich, supple and elegant wines dedicated to the winegrower’s art at this innovative, state-of-the-art winery.
Rappahannock Cellars is nestled in the heart of Virginia’s famous hunt country in the Blue Ridge Mountains on the historic Glenway Farm in Rappahannock County, where it is managed by John, his wife Marialisa and their twelve children. The winery produces 7,000 cases annually, consisting chiefly of Viognier, Chardonnay, Seyval, Meritage and Cabernet Franc.
