Since I’ve been at the Rappahannock News, there has always been a competition over what information makes the cut. Stories about llamas and stories about football are both important to someone, and sometimes that means a hard choice. Earnest Hemingway said of writing that sometimes you have to “kill your darlings,” and 111 always feel bad about those poor llamas. Sometimes, the wrong information is left out, and it turns out to be important later. Sometimes the wrong information is included, and then I just turn out to be wrong. For instance, I’m not 100 percent sure that Hemingway actually said that.
