School starts for Rappahannock County Public Schools this Monday as staff members anticipate 361 high school students.
“This is pretty much what we expected, with such a large graduating class last year,” said principal Roger Mello. Last years high school enrollment was at 376. The class of 2006 was the largest graduating class ever in for Rappahannock High School.
Superintenent of schools Dr. Robert Chappell welcomed all of the Rappahannock Public School staff members to the new year last Monday as he spoke about new goals and new programs.
“We must remember that the most important people in Rappahannock County are the children that we serve,” he stated.
New goals
Of the goals for the 20062007 year, Chappell wants to continue to see progress with the SOL pass rates. This year he wants to include, “pass advanced” notation on all of the tests this year. “Pass Advanced” shows particular areas where a student excels normal pass rates. Another goal mentioned was to meet the adequate yearly progress targets set by the federal government for the “No Child Left Behind Act” and provide assistance necessary for all of the June diploma candidates to pass all courses and meet all State requirements.
