Focused is a good word for these guys. Leaving the conventional rock and roll path, wherein a band would try to get signed by a label in order to make an album, Pontiak decided to create their own. They started their own record label, Fireproof Records Inc.,, to put the album out.

“I’ve had the idea for Fireproof for a long time. The fact is, today it’s just easier to record yourself,” said Van.

“If you’re motivated and slightly intelligent, you can be your own record label,"scoffed Jennings, acting like creating a business, managing a band, recording and producing an album, or scheduling a tour is as easy, as setting up a lemonade stand. Pontiak likes to make1 their psychedelic/prog influence d/lounge/indescribably unique music, and it’s evi-' dent that they’ll keep doing it no matter how many labels they have to start, journalists they have to argue with, or Corollas they have to drive across the country.

At the end of the interview and done with my beer, I asked Jennings what he liked about his favorite Pontiak song. He said “I like the space it creates in my head.”

I like that space, too.
