Characterized as a drum whose depth is less then its, girth, this large family of drums includes the Native" American Buffalo Drum, the Irish Bodhran, the Moroccan Bendir and the Brazilian Pandiero to name but a few. These ancient types of drums were played by the Egyptians, Sumerians and other ancient cultures': Interestingly, research has found that frame drums in thd ’? ancient world were most commonly played by women,; Evidence has been found from ancient cultures in the' Middle East of frame drums being played by women for ceremonial purposes over 7,000 years ago. As people spread throughout the world, frame drums evolved into many different forms and ways of playing. In this workshop participants will: Learn about the history of frame drums. ' *? Be exposed to several different types of frame drums,: from around the world. *Learn playing techniques to produce the sounds out o? the drum ■* Learn to play at least three traditional Middle Eastern rhythms. Come experience the ancient traditions of playing these magical instruments in a dynamic and engaging workshop with instructor Jonathan Murray. Jonathan has traveled the world and has intently studied percussion traditions from many cultures. i4 As a teacher, he makes the learning fun and access**ble and is dedicated to empowering others with the abili*,’, ty to play amazing music.
