“We presented an overview of what pandemic flu is,” explained Hatter. “And broke down into some specifics.”
How to spread precautionary messages to the community at large is a second major consideration.
“We needed a good way to get the message across,” said Hatter. “People need information on what a pandemic flu is and how they can prepare at home.”
In Rappahannock County, the sparse population density and rural nature make it hard to widely disseminate information, a problem highlighted during the hunt for fugitive Ira Wayne Cloniger earlier this summer. Rappahannock relies mostly on volunteers for fire and emergency services. The Rappahannock News is the only local newspaper and media outlet and there are few alternative methods for spreading information
