With a production of 11,000 gallons/year Washington’s operation is thought to have been one of the largest in early America. (Note that Rappahannock’s 1840s output looks pretty good as well.)
The Mount Vernon distillery is being recreated on its original site (next to, what else, the Washington gristmill) and will be open to the public sometime in 2007.
