Just in case: Outbreak preparations

• Stock up. Begin storing non-perishable, easy-toprepare foods that require little or no water. Keep a supply of water and emergency materials, like prescription and non-prescription medicines, flashlights with batteries, a portable radio, toilet paper and disposable diapers. • Keep it simple. In the event of an outbreak, the importance of basic health habits cannot be stressed enough, and it’s never to early to start practicing. Stay at home when you’re sick, wash your hands and cough and sneeze into the crook of your arm — not into your hands. • Plan ahead. Identify family members, friends and neighbors who may need assistance in the case of an emergency. Ask your employer about the business’ plan of action in the case of an outbreak; do the same with your children’s schools. Take into consideration a possible reduction or loss of income if you’re unable to work.
