For anyone who has ever driven Skyline Drive and felt trepidation about hiking more than a few steps from the road’s scenic overlooks, Saturday is the day to overcome that fear.

Shenandoah National Park and the Potomac Appalachian Trail Club will help novice hikers leave the pavement through events scheduled for National Trails Day.

The event, titled “Beyond the Trailhead,” will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Byrd Visitor Center, located at milepost 51 in the park.
