Now that the Rappahannock County Public Schools’ controversial budget has been adopted, the Board of Supervisors is moving on to discuss the rest of the county’s budget for the next fiscal year.
County Administrator John McCarthy has proposed a budget that calls for $8,181,948 for non-school expenses. That is an increase from fiscal 2007s $7,661,555 budget.
The bigger budget will not require a tax increase, McCarthy said. Large onetime expenses in this year’s budget, such as the $145,000 price for closing the last cell in the Amissville landfill, will be paid for with accumulated reserves.
“We’re not taxing for those, so they won’t have any effect on the tax rate,” McCarthy said.
