Memorial Day was much more than a three-day weekend. It marks the beginning of summer.
Thanks to the fund rsiising efforts of Phyllis and Jim Swindler and the Veterans of Foreign Wars, this year’s Memorial Day was celebrated with a new monument. Now, veterans and their families of Rappahannock County will have a special place to honor the memory of their loved ones.
For some of us, we are waiting for the next big holiday to come in with a bang - July 4th will be here soon and with it the return of fireworks to the county. While they can’t be held in the Town of Washington due to new fireworks codes, they will be orchestrated in a big way thanks to the efforts of Richie Burke, Mike Leake and Gary Settle. Bill Fletcher’s acreage on Route 231 will provide a large arena for this year’s fireworks display.
The Rappahannock County Sheriff’s Office was out in full force over the weekend. Keep those seat belts buckled. The “Click-It-Or-Ticket" program was being strictly enforced.
