I.. STATE AWARD: Eighth grader Tiffany Wayland along with Adam Carter (7th) and Case Kramer (6th) pause to show off their trophy.
The middle school team also won third in the state in this contest, beating Thomas Harrison Middle School horn Harrisonburg City in the first round) losing to James Madison Middle from Roanoke and eventually beating Benjamin Franklin Middle from Fairfax Comity td win a trophy.

Another middle school con-i test, Inventions and Innovations, is designed for a full year 7th grade course taught in middle schools with technology pro: grams. Even though RCMS does not yet have this class, a team of students was fielded to develop a new invention prototype and the research documents that go with it.
Martha Ki dwell, known at the school for walking down the hall with sticky notes on her arm gave the kids the idea of a ‘Handy Bandy, a wrist strap that holds a notepad and pencil holder. The team of Allie Yowell, Case Kramer, and Brittani Dodson used Tiffany as their hand model far the photos.
They placed seventh in the state.
From a Regional trophy win, Tiffany Wayland entered in the Technical Writing Challenge. She researched both positive and negative sides of the Impacts of Television. She wrote well enough to a fifth in the state.
The Leadership Challenge team of Carolyn Vickers and Tiffany Wayland also placed fifth in the state. They had an on-site problem that required quick and sound thinking
In the Medical Technology Challenge Brittani Dodson, Carolyn Vickers, and Allie Yowell studied scoliosis. Along with a notebook of research and a model they returned with sixth in the state.
RCMS had two trophy winners at the regional level in Prepared Speech. Adam Carter gave his presentation earning fourth in the state. Tiffany Wayland returned with a sev-; enth place showing.
High school members also placed in the top ten finalists,* The team of John Mello and Justin Fitzmorris took the Construction Systems exam to place tenth in the state.
The Systems Control team of Tyler Crews, Joe Vickers, and Matthew Bywaters won at regianals and met a much stiffer competition at the state level. This year they placed seventh.
