Mary Edna Johnson Schaefer, 89, of Sperryville, died Wednesday, May 23 at the Blue Ridge Christian Home in Bealeton.
She was born on March 17, 1918 in Sperryville, VA to the late Joseph Burnham Johnson and Edna Compton Johnson.
Mrs. Schaefer was a longtime member of Trinity Episcopal Church where she served as treasurer
She is survived by her children, Fred Schaefer of Sperryville, Yates Palmer and her husband, Thomas of Leesburg and Susan Updike and her husband, Francis of Culpeper.
Additional survivors include one sister, Lucille Payne of Madison, three grandchildren, and one great- grandson.
In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband, Frederick William Schaefer and her brother, Joseph B. Johnson, Jr.
A funeral service was held on Monday, May 28, at Trinity Episcopal Church in Washington, VA with Rev. Jennings Hobson officiating. Interment was followed in Woodville Cemetery.
Her grandchildren served as pallbearers.

Callie Virginia Clatterbuck Foster, 72, of Sperryville, died Tuesday, May 22, at her residence
Mrs. Foster was boro August 12, 1934, in Sperryville, the daughter of the late Harry and Julia Cook Clatterbuck. She was a seamstress for Aileen Inc. in Flint Hill.
Surviving are her husband-Jesse Foster, Sr.; three sons Jesse Foster, Jr. of Sperryville, Silas Foster of Georgia, and Edward Foster of Sperryville; one sister Etta Jenkins of Sperryville; twelve grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
A funeral service was held on Saturday, May 26, at Maddox Funeral Home conducted by Pastor John Burke. Burial was followed in Washington Masonic Cemetery in Washington, VA.
Pallbearers were David Foster, William Foster, Dan Clatterbuck, and Dallas Lillard.
