From concept to completion in one year, this memorial is also a tribute to the hard work and generosity of many members of this community. James Swindler, Korean War Veteran, Post Quartermaster and chair of the memorial committee, has worked tirelessly, along with his wife Phyllis, to develop a plan of action, send out fund raising letters, gain the cooperation of the cemetery in donating a site and designing the memorial itself. Jim was hospitalized on Friday of Memorial Weekend and was unable to attend the dedication ceremony.
Post Commander Hitt paid special tribute to James and Phyllis Swindler in making this memorial a reality. He also thanked Kim Estes Kilby, the Culpeper Star Exponent and the Rappahannock News for their support. Two little angels, Carrington and Cameron Wayland, were at the top of the stairs passing out the programs as people arrived.
It is clear that this memorial would not have become reality without the generous contributions from members of the community. Thanks to all of you for your support.
