“Michael Vick’s guilty plea to federal dogfighting charges highlighted the reality of this barbaric practice,” said Amy Chynoweth, director of the agency’s Animal Fighting and Cruelty campaign.
According to the HSUS, dogfighting is a “highly organized underground movement” which is often associated with other crimes.
“With the growth of gangs in inner cities, [dogfighting] tends to be an urban issue,” said John Goodwin, manager of animal fighting issues for the humane society. “[But] people involved in it do come to rural areas.”
